INTRODUCING THE PACERPOLE DUAL LOCK
The Pacerpole Dual Locks are three section carbon fibre Pacerpoles. The shaft diameters are 18mm/16mm/14mm with an 8cm tungsten carbide tip housing (4cm diameter basket, and rubber Street feet).
They use the unique Pacerpole handle that has been designed from first principles to efficiently harness the power of the upper body without wasting it, to enhance support, stability and propulsion (or restraint) when walking. The Dual Lock model has a cam based lever lock between the upper and middle sections which creates a firm pressure grip directly around the middle section. This allows for quick initial extension and pack down as well as adjustments to personalise the shaft height, and to extend the shaft on a steep descent etc. The strength of the pressure grip can be set and micro adjusted by winding the lever before closing if required.
The middle and lower sections are connected with an integral cord and positive locking spring activated pin at a fixed height. Simply pull out the bottom section until the pin is revealed and the section will automatically lock in place. The internal cord keeps the two sections in tension, minimising any rattle at the joint. To collapse, slightly pull the 2 sections apart, press the pin in again and push the bottom section up into the middle section. This system allows the bottom two connected sections to be replaced if required, with spares available to buy through the pacerpole online shop, including replacement 8cm Carbide tip+housing units.

The lower shaft sections: place the side of your hand against the top of the basket and pull straight down firmly without twisting - until its pin is revealed after about 40cms/15ins, and the section will automatically lock in place.
OR Clamp shaft tip/basket between heels, hold the middle section with both hands and pull straight-up firmly until the button clicks into place. The pin has a slight bevel at the top and once in position will be protected from above by the orange Alloy collar. The internal cord keeps the two sections in tension, minimising any rattle at the joint.
To adjust the top shaft section: This is extended by opening the lever-arm, firmly pulling the sections apart and then closing at your personalised pole height. To avoid rattle, the tolerance of these shaft diameter sections is 'fine' - so their sliding is not too loose.
To adjust the Lever-lock mechanism (if necessary): open the lever-arm then rotate it a full rotation clockwise to tighten or anti-clockwise to slacken. The lever lock has an internal stainless steel inlay for the contact surface which creates a firm and effective grip without the need for over-tightening. If over-tight it makes all the shaft sections stiffer to pull-out/push-in, as it affects tube compression and the ease with which the middle/lower sections slide. Opening the lever will make for an even easier slide of the lower sections as the lever can't compress the fine tolerance shaft tubing.
BEFORE USE: lean your weight on the pole to check that the locking is secure. It should close with a moderate finger pressure - making it easy to open and close the lever.
TO COLLAPSE: place thumb on the orange collar with thumb nail pointing down to shaft tip. Press button to release (pushing down against the basket at the same time with the other hand can ease any tension on the button). Retract the top section by opening the lever-arm and firmly compressing the sections.
AFTER USE: Wipe the surfaces down with plain water as necessary and dry. It is useful - but not essential to store the top sections free of the collapsed lower ones in their mesh bag. Avoid damaging the top flanges of the middle sections.
If the lower shaft section happens to become harder to pull to expose the pin (so it becomes very difficult to click into place) ..... then the tensioning cord inside has become twisted, and so shortened. To untwist this yellow cord, just push-up the lower section into the middle shaft section. Grip the yellow knot housed in the cap at the top of the middle section (a pair of pliers may be needed to grip it) and pull this cord out through the hole as far as it will go; untwist the cord. Finally, pull out the bottom shaft section - which should be restored to normal tension.
